Our Partners in Conservation
Since its creation in 1973, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) has participated in a variety of partnerships, including the Arkansas Wildlife Federation, to protect the biodiversity of the “Natural State.” Director Bill Holliman and his staff continue to share their specialized expertise with conservation partners, while at the same time benefiting from the skills of experts in other fields. These partnerships aid with management of the ANHC's system of Natural Areas and promote other conservation actions and initiatives. Learn More About the ANHC here.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission plays an important role in keeping The Natural State true to its name. During the last 100 years, the agency has overseen the protection, conservation and preservation of various species of fish and wildlife in Arkansas.
An essential part of ensuring healthy wildlife populations involves people. Agency programs geared toward the public generate awareness of ethical and sound management principles. Whether it be educational programs, fishing and hunting regulations or environmental awareness, working with people is just as important a factor in managing wildlife as any other. The AWF works closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program (Partners Program) to provide technical and financial assistance to private landowners to restore or enhance fish and wildlife habitats for the benefit of Federal Trust Species (e.g. migratory birds, threatened, endangered, and other declining species).
Our partnerships has resulted in significant restoration accomplishments on private lands through out Arkansas, benefiting Federal Trust Species and resident wildlife species. The program emphasizes conservation practices directed at restoring habitats which include, but are not limited to, wetlands, riparian areas, bottomland hardwoods, upland forests, native grasslands, savannahs and brushlands.
